PLWA’s dark forest green and white plate includes a $25 annual fee that goes directly towards our mission.
Getting your plate is easy. Simply head to the County Vehicle Registration office and have your VIN or registration handy!
An individual or business who owns a passenger car, pickup, van, sport utility vehicle, motor home, large truck or bus that is registered in Montana may choose to display a PLWA plate. Sponsored plates are available for trailers by special order. There is no special process to apply for or renew most sponsored plates. The county treasurer issues or renews the plates when you pay the applicable vehicle registration fees and any special license plate fees. Find your local office to apply for or change/update your plate.
License plates sponsored by qualified organizations, colleges or governmental bodies are designed with distinctive backgrounds, colors or phrases that identify the sponsoring organization. Sponsored plates are authorized under MCA Title 61, Chapter 3, Part 4. The cost of the plates and renewing them each year includes a donation that goes directly to the sponsoring organization. By purchasing these plates, people show their support for an organization and make a financial contribution to its work. Trailer & camper plates must be requested and special ordered.

Dealerships can partner with us by displaying our license plate placard (QR code included) at their delivery desk, or by telling buyers about our work and encouraging them to support public lands by choosing our plate.

Dealers receive placards for each of their delivery desks, and a decal for the dealership window so that you can proudly announce your business’s support for Montana public lands and waters!
